STDs are infections that are spread from one person to another, usually during vaginal, anal, and oral sex. They’re really common, and lots of people who have them don’t have any symptoms. Without treatment, STDs can lead to serious health problems. But the good news is that getting tested is no big deal, and most STDs are easy to treat.:

• Chlamedia – Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that’s easily cured with antibiotic medicine. It’s one of the most common STDs, and most people who have chlamydia don’t show any symptoms.
• Gonorrhea – Gonorrhea is a common bacterial infection that’s easily cured with antibiotic medicine. It’s sexually transmitted, and most people with gonorrhea don’t have symptoms. Gonorrhea is a very common sexually transmitted infection, especially for teens and people in their 20s. Gonorrhea is sometimes called “the clap” or “the drip.”
• Genital Warts – Genital warts are common and are caused by certain types of HPV. Genital warts can be annoying, but they’re treatable and aren’t dangerous. Genital warts show up on the skin around your genitals and anus. They’re caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV).
• Hepatitis B – Hepatitis B is an infection that can cause liver disease. It can be spread through sex. You can protect yourself by getting the hepatitis B vaccine and using condoms. Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by a virus (called the hepatitis B virus, or HBV). It can be serious and there’s no cure.
• Herpes – Herpes is a common virus that causes sores on your genitals and/or mouth. Herpes can be annoying and painful, but it usually doesn’t lead to serious health problems.Herpes is a super-common infection that stays in your body for life. More than half of Americans have oral herpes, and about 1 out of 6 Americans has genital herpes.
• HIV/AIDS – HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. It damages your immune system, making it easier for you to get sick. HIV is spread during sex, but condoms can help protect you. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It’s a virus that breaks down certain cells in your immune system (your body’s defense against diseases that helps you stay healthy). When HIV damages your immune system, it’s easier to get really sick and even die from infections that your body could normally fight off. About 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, and more than 38,000 new infections happen every year. Most people with HIV don’t have any symptoms for many years and feel totally fine, so they might not even know they have it.
• Human Papillomavirus –
• HPV stands for human papillomavirus. It’s the most common sexually transmitted infection. HPV is usually harmless and goes away by itself, but some types can lead to cancer or genital warts. There are more than 200 types of human papillomavirus (HPV). About 40 kinds can infect your genital area — your vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum, anus, penis, and scrotum — as well as your mouth and throat.
• Molluscum Contagiosum –
• Molluscum contagiosum is an infection that causes small bumps on your skin. You get it through touching infected skin, including during sex. It goes away by itself and isn’t dangerous. Molluscum contagiosum is caused by a virus that lives in the outer layer of your skin. You can get it during sexual contact, and it’s easily spread through non-sexual touching and by sharing clothes and towels, too. Both kids and adults can get molluscum contagiosum.
• Pubic lice — also known as crabs — are small parasites that attach to the skin and hair near your genitals. Crabs aren’t dangerous, and they’re usually pretty easy to get rid of. Millions of people get infected with pubic lice every year. They are tiny insects that look like tiny versions of the crabs you see at the beach. They live on the skin and coarse hairs that are around your genitals, and they feed on your blood. Pubic lice spread really easily during sexual contact.
• Scabies — is an itchy skin condition caused by tiny parasites. It’s passed through skin-to-skin contact, usually during sex. Scabies isn’t dangerous and can be cured. Scabies (pronounced skay-bees) is caused by scabies mites — tiny, insect-like parasites that infect the top layer of your skin. Scabies causes rashes, irritation, and a ton of itching. It’s easily spread to other people during skin-to-skin touching.Scabies can be really uncomfortable, but it’s usually not dangerous. It can be cured with medicated creams or pills.
• Syphilis —Syphilis is a common bacterial infection that’s spread through sex. Syphilis is easily cured with antibiotic medicine, but it can cause permanent damage if you don’t get treated.

  Syphilis is a really common STD. Syphilis is spread through vaginal, anal, and oral sex.

  Syphilis causes sores on your genitals (called chancres). The sores are usually painless, but they can easily spread the infection to other people. You get syphilis from contact with the sores. A lot of people with syphilis don’t notice the sores and feel totally fine, so they might not know they have it.

• Trichomoniasis — called “trich” for short — is an STD that’s cured with antibiotics. It’s super common, and most people with trich don’t have any symptoms.

HIV–STI interactions

HIV and other STIs may interact with each other in the following ways:

• HIV, by causing immunosuppression, can modify the natural history (duration), clinical presentation (severity), and response to treatment of certain STIs, notably other viral infections such as genital herpes simplex virus infection or human papillomavirus

• STIs, by causing ulceration or inflammation of the genital tract, may enhance the transmission of HIV by increasing infectiousness of HIV-positive individuals and/or the susceptibility of HIV-negative persons
